Extra money to church buildings

Minister Van Engelshoven has listed where the previously announced 80 million euros for culture goes: talent development and cultural education, but also the preservation of church buildings.

Minister Ingrid van Engelshoven (Culture, D66) is going to use the extra money that this cabinet has set aside for art and culture, 80 million euros per year, for talent development, among other things. The cultural funds receive a new, joint program for language-rich makers.

MONUMENTS
The cabinet has allocated an additional 325 million for the preservation of heritage and monuments, including church buildings in particular. Van Engelshoven: “A lot will be left empty in the coming years. Or it is already empty. Vacancy is disastrous, so it is also about reuse. We are going to ask municipalities to make church visions: which church gets which function. ”

Investing in the preservation of churches, isn't that a concession to coalition partners CDA and ChristenUnie? "No, I feel at home with this story. Churches play an enormous role in heritage when it comes to the recognisability of the landscape. If you walk, and I do a lot, you often walk from church to church. It is about the combination of investing in art and culture and in heritage. If you know where you come from at this time, if you have that firmly under your feet, you can also be more innovative as a society. ”
